Why You'll Love Experiencing a Pigeon Forge Winter

November 25, 2025

Things may slow down after the holiday season here in the Smokies, but that just means it’s a great time to take a Pigeon Forge vacation with fewer crowds. Plus, you’ll still be able to enjoy the Winterfest lights! Here are some of the highlights of experiencing a Pigeon Forge winter:

Winterfest Light Displays

One of the best Pigeon Forge winter activities you won’t want to miss is the Winterfest lights! You’ll have until mid-February to enjoy the spectacular nighttime light displays scattered throughout Pigeon Forge. We suggest taking a driving tour one evening, and then exploring the Wonders of Light Walking Trail along the Riverwalk another night, hot chocolates in hand!

Chance to See Snow

Of course, a Pigeon Forge winter wouldn’t be complete without a little snow! Even though snowfall doesn’t typically stick around for too long at lower elevations in Pigeon Forge, the snow-covered Smokies provide a breathtaking backdrop for your winter vacation.

We recommend taking a scenic drive along Newfound Gap Road, as this route follows the upper elevations for some beautiful winter scenery! Additionally, Wears Valley Road is a lower-elevation drive that’s a great option when there’s some snow on the ground.

Our Year-Round Dinner Show

We technically have shows every month of the year, but after the first weekend in January, we are closed until select days in February. Daily shows resume in March! Pirates Voyage is a swashbuckling adventure of pirates, mermaids, live animals, and a four-course feast that the whole family won’t be able to stop talking about!

Plenty of Indoor Attractions

The Titanic Museum Attraction
Why we love it: Interactive exhibits and a self-guided tour; combo tickets with our show available for added convenience!

The Comedy Barn Theater
Why we love it: Clean comedy, animal acts, live music, and audience participation; a different show every night!

Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies
Why we love it: hands-on experiences, unique animal encounters, and daily dive shows; try the Glass Bottom Boat Adventure!

Cades Cove Loop Road Also Open

Cades Cove in the winter

Winter in Cades Cove typically means a less-crowded scenic drive, snow-capped mountains, and frost-covered trees: a beautiful way to experience winter in the Great Smoky Mountains! While Cades Cove Loop Road is open year-round, snowfall and ice could result in a temporary closure until it’s safe to visit once again.

If you’re able to go to Cades Cove during the winter months, you’ll love how peaceful and still the area feels. You can still walk around the historic sites, catch glimpses of wildlife, and even hike to a waterfall. Abrams Falls usually doesn’t freeze over completely, but you may get to see unique ice formations!
